Scientific Illustration Services
Scientific illustration is visual science communication. My aim is to faithfully represent your scientific subject using art to engage the viewer, clarify complex information, and enhance understanding by your audience—whether they are fellow scientists or the general public. I am attentive to details and enjoy working with subject matter experts to translate their knowledge into powerful graphics that enhance our understanding and appreciation for the natural world.
My services can include:
Scientific figures or graphical abstracts for research publications and posters
Diagrams for textbooks and educational resources
Informational art for museum exhibits and interpretive signage
Infographics for fact sheets, reports, or outreach campaigns
…and much more

I use digital tools to create vector graphic illustrations. I find this way of working provides ample opportunity for collaboration and modification to ensure that the resulting artworks are accurate and meet client needs. As a bonus, vector graphics can often be resized and reformatted relatively easily to suit a variety of outputs and applications, both digitally and in print. Every project is unique, but the following represents my recommended process when budget and timeline allow.
Phase 1: Research
30 minute discovery call to discuss your project needs and goals in detail.
Client delivers reference materials.
Develop and approve a clear project brief.
Phase 2: Design
Deliver 2-3 concept sketches for review.
First draft developed based on the chosen sketch.
Phase 3: Refine
Revise draft based on client feedback .
Three (3) rounds of revisions (draft, tight sketch, final proof).
Phase 4: Deliver
Print ready and/or web-optimised image files (Native/working files not included)
Final Invoice.
I like to allocate one (1) week of working time for each phase, but the overall timeline will expand based on how much time you require to provide feedback and approvals. Rush service can sometimes be offered for an additional fee.

I price my work on a project and deliverables basis. (If you are interested in ongoing illustration and design services, I am happy to discuss retainer packages.) Total project price will depend on the complexity and the intended use and licensing rights for the final artwork. My standard contract provides a perpetual non-exclusive, non-transferrable, license to use the artwork for the original purpose.
Starting price ranges:
Simple line art or icon — $200+
Full color illustration of one subject — $500+
Complex color illustration with multiple subjects — $800+
Factors that can increase the total price:
Subject complexity
Additional research
Additional rounds of revision
Compressed turnaround time
Expanded usage rights and licensing
Following an introductory conversation about the scope of your project, I’ll provide a proposal with complete pricing information based on your needs. I require a deposit of 50% to reserve time for your project and begin work.
